ERIC Cancer Initiative Hosts Inspiring Cancer Survivors’ Breakfast Under the Pink Wellness Wave Campaign

Kampala, Uganda — October 2025.

The Pink Wellness Wave campaign, a collaborative initiative between Wellness With Her and the Eric Cancer Initiative (ERIC), continued to make meaningful strides in promoting breast health awareness with a heartfelt Cancer Survivors’ Breakfast held last week.

The event, hosted by ERIC in Makindye, brought together cancer survivors, caregivers, and wellness advocates for a morning dedicated to reflection, gratitude, and empowerment. The session created a safe and uplifting space where survivors openly shared their stories, recounting moments of pain, resilience, and triumph. Many spoke about the emotional and physical challenges faced during treatment, the lessons learned, and the strength found through community support.

Representatives from Wellness With Her led an engaging wellness session, featuring a Gratitude Exchange Moment and a series of gentle stretching and movement exercises designed to help participants reconnect with their bodies. The light physical session provided a sense of renewal, energy, and calm reinforcing the link between movement and holistic healing.

One of the highlights of the morning was the launch of the Breast Health Awareness Worksheet, a collaborative educational tool developed under the Pink Wellness Wave partnership. The worksheet is designed to guide women and survivors through 30 activities that promote self-awareness, emotional grounding, and physical care. It also connects to the ongoing Affirm Your Life Challenge by Wellness With Her, specifically the Affirm Your Breasts edition which encourages participants to build a daily relationship with their bodies through mindfulness, reflection, and affirmation. Beyond the breakfast, the partnership continues to extend its impact beyond conversation. Members from both organizations recently visited the Uganda Cancer Institute, where they spent time with a patient preparing for surgery, offering emotional support and companionship. The gesture emphasized the shared belief that wellness is not just physical recovery but also empathy, presence, and human connection.

According to the Uganda Cancer Institute, breast cancer remains one of the most prevalent cancers among women in Uganda, with a rising number of cases each year. Many patients continue to present at advanced stages due to stigma, limited access to screening, and lack of awareness challenges that initiatives like Pink Wellness Wave aim to address through education and preventive wellness outreach.

In addition to the Survivors’ Breakfast, the Eric Cancer Initiative officially launched its Breast Guardian Campaign, a powerful community-led effort that seeks to create a network of individuals; both men and women, committed to advancing breast cancer awareness across Uganda. A Breast Guardian is one who supports, educates, and engages their community in conversations about early detection, prevention, and care.

Through this campaign, ERIC hopes to build a national chain of ambassadors who champion proactive breast health practices. These guardians will work within their neighbourhoods, schools, and workplaces to share accurate information, debunk myths, and encourage regular screenings. The launch was met with enthusiasm and hope, as survivors and partners pledged to carry the message forward in their daily circles.

The campaign represents a community-first model empowering ordinary citizens to become agents of change and emphasizing that awareness begins with conversation. The Breast Guardian initiative will roll out alongside the Pink Wellness Wave activities throughout the coming months, uniting wellness, education, and advocacy.

Also present at the breakfast was Thea Martha Yneza Bateeze, Brand Ambassador of Wellness With Her, who joined survivors in the morning’s wellness experience. Thea, known for her work in women’s empowerment and mentorship, shared words of encouragement, emphasizing the importance of continuous self-care and body awareness. She engaged participants in mindful movement and gratitude reflection, reminding everyone that healing extends beyond the physical; it’s about emotional resilience and community connection.

Speaking after the event, Rianne Lelia-Bateeze, Founder of Wellness With Her, described the experience as deeply moving and reaffirming of the organization’s mission.

“For us, wellness is not a luxury, it’s a way of living consciously in our bodies, even through pain and uncertainty,” she shared. “This partnership with ERIC through the Pink Wellness Wave allows us to merge movement, mindfulness, and mental wellness into spaces that need it most. We want every woman to know that her body is not her enemy, it’s her story, her home, and her greatest teacher.”

As the Pink Wellness Wave continues, both Wellness With Her and ERIC Cancer Initiative remain committed to advancing body, mind, and breast health across Uganda; one story, one movement, and one act of awareness at a time.
