This Monday, something shifted in the collective air of our Wellness With Her community. We had the distinct pleasure of hosting our very first Money Monday conversation under the July Affirm Your Money theme and what a way to begin. The conversation was led by none other than Monica Kasirye Kavuma, the formidable founder of Financial Fitness Spa, a powerhouse in the field of financial literacy and personal empowerment.
For those of you who may have missed it, allow me to bring you into the room.
A Story of Resilience and Reinvention
Monica’s journey into financial empowerment did not begin from a place of ease; quite the contrary. Ten years ago, right before giving birth to her child, Monica received an SMS that would change her life: she had been laid off from her job along with 52 others. Imagine that: a brand new mother to be, learning via text that her financial safety net had just been yanked from under her feet.
But here’s the remarkable part. She chose not to crumble. She got up, baby in tow, and began the journey of looking for work and building again- slowly, intentionally, and consciously.
As she shared with us on Google Meet, that pivotal experience was a catalyst. It sparked a deep resolve to never again find herself financially unprepared. And so began her journey into becoming not just financially literate, but financially intentional.
“Pay Yourself First”
Monica’s guiding principle? One simple phrase: Pay yourself first.
She described how, upon re-entering the workforce, the first thing she did with every salary was to take off a percentage; not for bills, not for expenses -but for herself. That money became her foundation, her freedom, her cushion to grow in peace.
She didn’t speak from a place of perfection but from progress. Her transparency was refreshing, her calm wisdom, empowering.
Demystifying Finance with Practical Tools
The session was deeply interactive, built around community questions from the Affirm Your Life worksheet; real questions from real women doing the work.
“How do I go from having no money, no savings, to actually building something?”
Monica responded by recommending Xeno, an Ugandan app where users can begin saving with as little as 10,000 UGX. She explained how savings on the platform grow daily and compound over time and several of our members excitedly shared that they had already begun using it after Monica recommended it in our WhatsApp group prior to the session. She shared a code XENO32334 for one to begin their investment journey.
Another gem? Her reminder that financial literacy doesn’t require a degree in mathematics. It’s not rocket science- it’s simple math. “If your expenses are more than your income, you’re in the red. If you earn, save, and spend intentionally, you grow. That’s it.”
Monica also responded to a business owner who asked about taxes. She shared how unit trusts can be a game changer. By placing money (especially taxes) in a unit trust account while it accumulates interest, you can optimize your cash flow. Pay your taxes, yes but do it wisely. This, she stressed, is key to scaling businesses and attracting the kind of partners who require clean books and compliant systems.
Your Energy is Currency Too
One of the most resonant parts of Monica’s message came when she reminded us that money isn’t the only resource that builds wealth. She encouraged us to recognise and steward every resource at our disposal; our time, attention, energy, and unique talents. These, she said, are just as vital as the money in your account.
Your creativity is capital. Your network is a vault. Your focus is fuel.
She shared how being intentional with how she showed up – in relationships, workspaces, mentorships, and even how she responded to adversity — allowed her to build something meaningful. “Your network is your net worth,” she affirmed, describing how the people around her held her up when she couldn’t hold herself, and how they opened doors she didn’t even know existed.
It’s not just about hustling harder. It’s about recognising that you already have value and you already carry wealth within you.
When you begin to honour your time, honour your energy, and align with people and systems that multiply your efforts, you start to experience abundance far beyond the bank balance.

Financial Clarity = Wellness
At Wellness With Her, we believe that well-being is holistic. Emotional, mental, physical, spiritual and yes, financial. Monica’s growth story was a vivid reminder of how our relationship with money influences everything else.
She emphasized the importance of creating a dream budget, a version of your life without financial limits then walking backward from there. This visioning allows for clarity. It helps align your values with your spending. And most importantly, it allows you to reclaim authority over your financial life.
Community, Tools, and the Next Steps
This is just the continuation. We’re thrilled to continue this collaboration with Financial Fitness Spa, and we invite you to purchase Monica’s Financial Wealth Planner, now available at a 5% discount exclusively for the Affirm Your Life community. (directly message us to receive yours at this discount)
This planner isn’t just a notebook it’s a framework for a financial mindset shift.
Our community continues to build momentum, and we’re only getting started. We encourage all our members to participate in the ongoing Affirm Your Money challenge. This is your time to rewrite your money story; to name your desires, track your growth, and empower your choices.

A Final Word
As Monica so clearly put it, “Financial wellness doesn’t happen by accident. It’s a decision-one that must be made daily.”
We are so grateful to Monica for her time, wisdom, and candour. And to all of you who joined us, thank you. You made the space rich with curiosity, learning, and shared purpose.
We look forward to continuing these sacred conversations. Until then, pay yourself first, move intentionally, and remember: money is not just currency, it is energy. Handle it with care.
