Ugandan women know this flavor of fatigue well. Heck, women everywhere do. And while everyone loves to chirp about “good vibes” and “high energy,” nobody wants to admit the obvious: The people radiating real energy are the ones who respect rest like it’s oxygen.
Let’s Get Biological, Baby
You can sip hibiscus tea, do your full moon rituals, say your affirmations at sunrise; but if you don’t rest, your body will eventually snatch the steering wheel. Cortisol spikes. Your immunity tanks. You lose focus, snap at people you love, and end up using your weekends to recover instead of actually living.

Think of it like your phone: you don’t throw it harder at the wall to charge it faster. You plug it in and leave it alone. Same goes for your nervous system, you can’t strong-arm your way to vitality.
Why We Pretend We Don’t Need It
We’re conditioned to glorify the grind. “She works so hard! She never stops!” as if never stopping is something to aspire to. (Spoiler: it’s not. It’s a direct bus to burnout, with no scenic stops.)
Especially for us – mothers, sisters, caretakers, cycle warriors. If we rest, who will do everything? That anxiety keeps you stuck on the hamster wheel, performing energy instead of generating it.
Here’s What’s Real

If you want to glow, to get up tomorrow and mean it when you say “I am blessed and highly favored”, you better learn how to hit pause like it’s your secret superpower. Because it is.
Real talk: the most magnetic women you know aren’t up at 2am trying to finish everyone’s chores. They learned that no is a complete sentence, and that saying “I’m unavailable” is a love letter to their future self.
Your Rest Ritual (No Candle Required)
1️⃣ Shut It Down: Tonight, log off 30 minutes earlier than usual. That TikTok rabbit hole will wait.
2️⃣ Body Check: Where are you clenched? Unclench it. Shoulders, jaw, belly; soften them like you mean it.
3️⃣ Micro-Nap: Five minutes on the couch, eyes closed, phone on airplane mode. Nobody dies. Nobody sues you. The world will cope.
4️⃣ Protect It: If someone side-eyes you for resting, side-eye them right back. This is you protecting the version of you that can get up tomorrow and fight for your dreams.

“Actually, we rest now; so we can conquer later.”
