You learn the value of life when you’re on your knees praying that someone makes it through the night. My mum reminded me that even life begins with a little bit of labour. A mother cries, weeps and pushes as the baby is bruised, bloody and crying in pain. That’s when they know it’s truly alive, so what’s life without a little labour? Wanting to end your life before its due time, might make sense while you go through the motions of life but you’re ending the cycle merely halfway and even if it seems like the rest of the world continues without you, your mark is permanently left empty, a stump that never grows again in the world’s forest, everyone’s lives changes, however subtle to accommodate the absence of a spirit once felt.
So yeah, life does feel tough some days, but that’s when we know we’re alive. If it hurts, you’re living, not merely existing. Pain is a notion that’s terribly unwanted to the adult minds, but while we were young, we thrived off pain. We got bruised and knew we’d have a truly fruitful day in the field, fell off our bikes and knew we were getting the hang of it, broke a couple of bones and knew we had a few more stories to tell.
So hang on, just a bit longer. Breathe just a bit deeper. Smile just a bit wider. Love just a bit harder, cuz what’s life without just a bit more?
